Backed by bassist Anthony Jackson and drummer Simon Phillips, the DVD captures the trio’s live performance in Marciac, France in July, 2011. Six of Hiromi’s own compositions are featured during the performance, as well as her version of “Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 8, Pathetique”, which she included in her most recent release, Voice – an album also featuring Jackson. A bonus feature entitled “Five Days, Five Countries” rounds out the DVD’s contents.

Hiromi and Jackson had recorded together in the past, but this was the first pairing with Phillips.

“I had such a great time recording with them, and we went on the road together and that was even more fun,” Hiromi says. “As soon as we started playing live shows, we grew up as a band. It was the biggest fun I’ve ever had in my life musically. That’s why I wanted to do another record. I couldn’t let it go. I wanted to do it again.”

Hiromi, Jackson and Phillips are also part of the pianist’s next release, Move, released earlier this month in Europe and set for a January 15, 2013 release date in the U.S.

“Because I had been playing with Anthony and Simon for quite a bit, I just started to understand their characteristics, and I could find a hidden gem in their playing,” Hiromi said of Move. “As a composer, I really wanted to write the songs especially for them, and I wanted to extract the unique beauty of their playing.”
